“My Great Salvation- so Rich and Free”
My salvation through Jesus Christ. That is what I am expressing my thankfulness for today.
My God, the Creator of the whole universe, who existed from everlasting, who made me purely for his own pleasure, DIED for me-wretch that I am- so that I could spend eternity with Him.
As I shared with you yesterday, God gave us everything He wants us to know about Him and how to live, as well as how to be sure that we’re going to live with Him forever. And the best part about all of that is, He made it so simple that even your forgetful, disorganized mama could do it.
For by grace are ye Saved… It is the gift of God: Not of works…(Ephesians 2:8-9)
My dear children, you know me better than anyone. How often have you reminded me of something that I was supposed to do? A promise that I’d made or an errand I had to run? How often have I set goals that I was so determined to stick with, only to totally give up on them a few days later? I do this constantly. “For the next week, I will walk every morning and only eat healthy foods.” Blah blah blah. This girl (your mom), I’m ashamed to say, is severely inept when it comes to “stick-with-it-ness.”
How then, would I ever be able to EARN my way into Heaven and eternal life without LOSING it first?
God must have known the short attention span so many of us have when He laid out the plan of salvation way back in the Garden. I mean, Adam and Eve couldn’t even keep ONE rule? We’re so easily distracted by the new and shiny, the bigger and better. How easy it is to fall for the lies of what could be if we just… We so easily become discontent. God knew if it were up to us to earn and keep our salvation, we’d be done for.
I’m so thankful that God not only saved me, but keeps me.
Jesus did all the work. He lived a sinless life and then gave that life to pay for the sins of the world. He gave Himself as a perfect gift. All we have to do is believe the Gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) and then make the choice to “…confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus (that He is God) and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead [and] thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9-10). After we make the choice to believe that Jesus did all the work for us to be saved, He promises that, “…I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand” (John 10:28).
No man (or woman- including my own self) can pluck me out of His hand.
Like the loving Father that He is, He gave us the most precious gift of eternal life (if we choose to accept it), and then- in His benevolent wisdom, promises to hold on to it for us.
At the beginning of this letter, I said that I hope you can relate to my thankfulness for God’s simple plan of salvation. If you have never made the choice to trust Jesus as your savior- realizing that there’s nothing YOU can do to earn or keep your salvation, please don’t wait.
I am so thankful for the knowledge that I will never be separated from my God. Knowing that you’ll be there with us will make that so much more joyful.
